A quieter kind of criminal defense.
Leaving a larger firm to build a boutique practice, Springstead Maddox Stolte Law wanted an identity with room for its own character. The Michigan attorneys appreciated art and brought both determination and empathy to their work. We took that combination seriously.
The challenges
- Establishing a boutique firm after leaving a larger practice.
- Standing apart from conventional criminal-defense branding.
- Creating a more refined introduction for the clients the firm wanted to reach.

What we did
- Built an artful identity around paintings of Michigan’s waters, giving the firm a story rooted in its home state.
- Paired a bird emblem and elongated serif wordmark with deep green and warm cream for a calm, confident presence.
- Brought the human side of the practice into “There’s More to Your Story,” carried through print materials and motion.
